Seth Harry Ltd, Central Supply Stores, 8-9 Fore Street Okehampton c1920

Seth Harry started business as a grocer, chemist and wine merchant in about 1873, in the shop where the Lacey family had carried on the same trades since the 1820s. In about 1889, Seth pulled down the shop and the adjoining shop and built the very large emporium which was to dominate Fore Street for nearly 80 years. Some may still remember it being replaced in the 1960s by International supermarket which later became Gateway.

The man at the centre of this group is Arthur Lee who took over the business in 1915. Seth Harry himself died in 1926.
